Shepherd Dog 04:55
out here the clothesline stretching with all the hand-me-downs and the fall wind is fetching the full moon back around i comb the hills for something tangled up inside of them up one and down the other always loping back again up one back down again but still i haven't found why i'm running away only to be loping back again my longing twists and billows like smoke escaping from a fire i hunt the shore for willows and keep away from metal wire i chase you to the lakeside i lose my hat for you later when i ask for freedom you say "there's nothing left to do" summer went too fast for me but everything must pass i'll be your shepherd dog and roll around in the grass with you i see the morning coming with flowers in her hands for us fresh from the long lost meadow where i carried you across and the sun is playing your hair just like a violin my eyes are blinded by the light you're living in really what i'm trying to say is i am amazed how thinking about you leaves me blinking for days

Kalina 02:19
kalina i saw you gathering all your things on your way to the old world and the folkways that you love i've seen ya in the way a record skips and hums racing toward the last song but only starting out then getting there all at once i've seen ya in the light of a dying ember glow hanging on the bowline and your eyes were far away i've seen ya turn around to look into the mirror i've seen ya twist impossibly with one foot on the bed and the other foot out the door oh kalina la la la i've seen you wave goodbye i've seen ya in the night lit up by the moon thinking about all the times that you have been let down i've seen ya most of all crying in the park your hair down in the morning and then we said goodbye

i dunno what i should do with your letters i really believed we could make it my plan was to watch you undressing forever but now i'm the one who is naked i heard you calling or was it the highway to tell me tomorrow is changing if i could get back there then i would just fly away but now i'm the one who is caged in now i'm the one who seems now and then i'm mixed up with st peter by those people whose love i'm abusing and i used to laugh at the senseless paint eaters but now i'm the one who is losing lost in my dreaming i think that you're next to me but all of my dreams are belated and this is the bed where you used to have sex with me but now i'm the one who's been traded the windows are frosted the floorboards are aching the struggle for breath all around me the waves beat my heart even as it is breaking and now i'm the one who is drowning "how can i ever begin to recover" i cried in my moment of suffering and i never thought i could bear a new lover but now i'm the one who's in love again

hanging out in the attic i'm not getting any better at it but i can still play the drumset and throw four-to-the-floor and i won't play the harmonica if you don't play the melodica we can never get far enough away away away from are you ready for the summer of yr dreams yeah? this chord will be gone tomorrow because it's everyone's to borrow but you can still be the star of my big autumn breakdown so clap your hands like you wanted to and the silence won't bother you but a song won't father you and your mother is already gone "i know folks who can get us pot" said a friend who never said a lot "sally forth and forget me not" said somebody else "if we tear down babylon remember, we were only having fun" said the girl with no towel on as she climbed out of a car
